“I’ve always struggled with relationships and my sexuality and being bisexual and not knowing how to sort of embrace that while also not being judged for it, It took me dating feminists to understand that these things are OK. I always knew it was OK — I was always fiercely defensive. There was always this little bit of doubt in me that people would think the worst of me, that people wouldn’t understand me.”

Well… that’s because in a patriarchal society, the rights of black men COMPARED TO WHITE MEN imply the rights of dependents/family, etc.
Furthermore, then there’s the right not to be murdered. And… that has more to do with their own fear of loosing loved ones.
Black men GENERALLY don’t stay up at night with the fear that his significant other will be gunned down by a cop. Not to say it doesn’t happen, BUT it’s much less likely.
However, then there’s freedom of gender expression/freedom from gender roles which we’ve barely scratched the surface of. Then there’s freedom from social problems within the communities. There’s different kinds of threats to different kinds of rights.
Basically, black women have helped defend the lives of their male loved ones throughout history and helped black men get comparable rights to white men.
But it “being reciprocated” would mean black men defending black women’s rights from white encroachment… there’s not as many obvious threats to black women from white people beyond things that would also be levied against black men.
Basically, alot of things are being conflated here, it seems.

Seems to me that “being reciprocated” would mean defending black women and standing up with black women against misogyny no matter where it comes from.
